How Much Money is Your Life Worth?

How Much Money is Your Life Worth?

How much would one extra day alive cost?

First, what is success to you? Success comes in many different forms for many different people, for some success is owning your own business, becoming a millionaire or getting married – what does success mean to you?

Write down your answer ________________________ and then ask “why does X represent success?” as an example why will becoming a millionaire make me successful?  People want money, cars, houses etc because it will make them happy – so I would ask, is being successful being HAPPY?

I would agree having money, owning a business or having 12 cars all have their perks but possessing objects does not guarantee happiness. The good news is that happiness is a STATE and as an NLP Life Coach I can teach you how to access your positive emotions whenever you require.

How much would you pay to live one more day?

Imagine you got ill, and the doctors after several examinations agree that you only have 12 months to live. While sat in the waiting room an eccentric billionaire who overheard your bad news felt sorry for you and offers to give you one million pound to spend enjoying yourself for your last 12 months on this earth.

What would you do with one million pound before you died?

What if you lived in a magical world and you could give back the million pounds and live 1 extra day – would you? One million pound for an extra 24hrs alive?

How about if you could live an extra week? Would that be worth one million pound? How about a month or a year?

What length of life would be needed before you would give up your one million pound? _____________ Why this amount of time?

We all value different things differently, for one person living an extra day is more important then anything else as life is precious. For some having a million pound and all the holidays, new clothes and material gifts that come with having lots of money is more important then an extra day or even a week alive, as some people prefer to have a shorter life with no money worries over a longer life with little money.

Why did you choose the money on the extra days? Because the thought of this life would make you happier then the other option. Once you know what you value and what will make you happy, you can go out and get it, the secret to living life is to do what makes you happy and I would add you first need to understand what will make you happy.

If you want to find and understand what makes you happy, look out for the forth coming Online Coaching Course.

Procrastination – Does it hold you back?

Procrastination – Does it hold you back?

This article comes from a great Life Coach Sandie Shaw from High Peak Life Coaching – Sandie  specialises in working with women and uses some amazing techniques to boost peoples confidence to help you achieve your goal. if you haven’t already check out Sandie’s website for a free coaching appraisal do so now
Why are some of our best ideas doomed to fail sometimes before we’ve even got started?

You intend to make an important phone call… but then it doesn’t seem so important after all.  You thought you were going to the gym … but some how you never seem to get there.  You were going to clean the car… but, nahh, manana.

Decisions like these are absolutely fine.  We choose one option over another, one after the other and that’s how we make our way through our lives. Procrastination only becomes a problem when we end up later regretting the decision that we made. When we choose a low priority task over a high priority task. When we choose something that makes us feel better in the short term (a fleeting good feeling) over something that will make us feel good in the long term (a lasting good feeling).  When actually, you really did want to go to the gym and now you feel unhealthy and fed-up. Because you really did want to make that phone call and now you’ve missed out on a great opportunity.  Because actually, your car really is a mess and it seriously get’s you down!

Here are a few ideas to ensure procrastination doesn’t spoil your day.
Top tips for beating procrastination.

Write your idea down on paper.  When an idea or a personal goal materialises in your mind, capture it and make it real by writing it down. Until you write it down it is just a thought floating around in the back of your mind with lots of other thoughts which could be replaced our shifted out of your mind at any second. Crystallizing your goal in writing will make it real and far more likely to happen.

Really know ‘why’ you want to do what you want to do. Look at the value attached to your goal.  Ask yourself, how will my life be improved in the long run if I do this?  How will my life be improved in the long run if I don’t?  Keep focusing on the key benefits of the goal.

Really know ‘how’ you will do it. Have a clear vision in your mind about how you will take action on your goal.  How will you make a start?  What will you do next? How will you finish?  Run through the series of events in your mind and picture yourself actually doing it.

Recognise any positive intention that could be behind your procrastinating thoughts.  Procrastination is not always a bad thing.  If your thoughts are telling you to stay in and relax when the plan is to go out and see your friends, then it’s worth recognising this second desire. Stick to the plan but compromise by taking care of your conflicting need as the second priority. See your friends the first night and take time out for yourself the following night.  See if you can meet both needs but on two different occasions.

If you have a number of things to do, do the most challenging and unpleasant task first. The unpleasant task is the task you are most likely to procrastinate over. Always do the hardest or most unpleasant task first.

Avoid getting into a mental discussion about doing the task at hand. Remember, you know what you want to do and why you want to do it and you know how to get started.  Practice saying to yourself  ‘no, this is not up for discussion’ and get started on that high priority task. The more you practice over-riding your procrastinating thought patterns with real physical action the quicker you will be able to handle procrastination next time it rears it’s ugly head.

Develop your HFT (High Frustration Tolerance). Lets face it, some jobs are no fun.  Whether this is because we find a task difficult, awkward, boring or tedious, it doesn’t mean that it’s best avoided. We live in a pleasure seeking society, entertainment is a big part of our lives and instant gratification is often in constant supply.  As a consequence, I believe we are losing the ability to tolerate things which do not give us instant gratification and sometimes we develop a low tolerance to frustrating activities (LFT).  Although happiness is our birth-right, it is worth remembering that not everything we do is going to make us feel instantly good. Strengthen your ability to handle frustration and stay focused on the key benefits of doing what you are doing and remind yourself why it’s worth putting up with a little short term discomfort from time to time.

Know your goal in terms of your capabilities.  If the goal is too easy you are likely to find it boring – can you make the task more interesting? Can you raise the bar a little higher? Do it quicker? Do it better?  On the other hand, if the task is too challenging, then this might be a sticking point too. How can you improve your capabilities? What resources are available to you? Do you need some help?  Does it have to be completely perfect?  If you can get the balance right between the task at hand and your capabilities, then your task really will just flow.

Break down big jobs into small manageable tasks and keep at it, one small task at a time. Remember Michael Lotito the chap who achieved his bazaar goal to eat a whole airplane? (pictured above).  Michael didn’t achieve this by biting off more than he could chew!  He did it one tiny bite-size nibble at a time and kept at it over the course of two years until the whole plane was gone.

Tell several people what you intend to do.  Make a pact with people and ask them for their support and encouragement. Get committed to your goal in public – it’s not so easy to procrastinate when everyone is watching you.  Alternatively, find people who are wanting to do the same thing as you and move forward together as a team.

Reward yourself every time you beat procrastination and stick to your plan. Beating procrastination IS a big deal and it deserves to be recognised as such. Celebrate your good work!  Celebrate small achievements as well as big ones.  Next time you get stuck you will remember that you can beat procrastination; you’ve done it before, it feels great and you can do it again. Treat yourself, you deserve it!

Coach Yourself – Online Coaching Course

Interactive activities; Videos, Presentations, E-book and Audios

Start taking control of your own life TODAY with your very own e-coach

I recently met a young lady named Michelle, who was waking up each morning feeling depressed and desperate, to the point where she had stopped going to work and stopped going out with her friends, she felt at the top of the downward spiral. Michelle told me she had no self belief and would often tell herself “I’m a horrid person who will fail at everything I try, people just don’t like me” it was this limiting belief that was stopping Michelle from moving forward with her life.

Do you ever feel like this, sad, lonely or depressed? Do you ever give yourself any negative self-talk that’s stops you achieving your goals? I told Michelle about the wide range of help she could receive from counselling to life coaching, she replied I know a life coach can help me, but I can’t afford the hourly sessions!”

    • Ask yourself on a scale between1-10, with one representing your life is at an all time low and ten representing your life at its best; where on the scale would you place your life today?
    • Where on the scale do you want to be? Pick a number
    • What need to happen for you to move towards that higher number on the scale?

Because I know Life Coaching is value for money, I often ask myself “how much would you pay to have a more fulfilled life? What price would you pay to achieve your goals?” But, I have never thought about the people who need coaching sessions to make life changing decisions, but can’t afford one-to-one life coaching sessions.

Because I know anyone can achieve anything that they want to do, I gave myself a new goal how can I offer affordable life coaching sessions to people who want to make real changes but cant afford face to face coaching sessions” after first thinking about offering discounted session, I realised after a couple of discounted sessions the cost would still add up and then it hit me, people can coach themselves as long as they have the tools – as I coach myself everyday.

    • The interactive online coaching course will give you over 36 coaching sessions to put you back in control of your life
    • Interactive activities; Videos, Presentations, E-book and Audios

Coaching sessions often cost between £50-£500 a session and many people will want 4-5 life coaching sessions; there are many advantages from having face to face coaching sessions but you know there are disadvantages too; limited sessions which means limited techniques, you can achieve one goal with face to face coaching sessions, but you will have more than one goal throughout our life which means you can re-use the online coaching course as much as you want throughout your life

The big advantages of an online coaching course are:

    • Having access to a wider range of tools and life coaching techniques
    • You will have a mixture of coaching session styles; e-book activities, videos, presentations and audios
    • Imagine being able to reuse session and techniques that I will teach you, which limits the problem of forgetting what happened in a face-to-face session
    • The activities can be used again and again, building on top of your confidence and achievements
    • You can share the course with other people, getting real value for money (some people share the course which means they can share the cost)

People who accept a job offer with a company who don’t have the same values will soon become bored, agitated or stressed which will lead to them quitting their job or becoming depressed and ill.

Take your top 3 values and ask “why is it important to me to have X value?” as an example; variation – because I get bored quickly and when I am bored I constantly have time off work, which often leads to me being sacked. This will you understand your values in more detail and is an insight to what motivates you Pain or Pleasure?

I was once working with a client who was quickly becoming depressed due to his job, when we looked at his Values, his number one value was “helping other people” when asked what his job was, he said “sales” whenwe discussed that his career values were opposite to his role, he originally disagreed as he had been working in sales for 10 years and only felt like this in the last 12 months.

After we explored this we found out that even though he had been in sales for 10 years for the past 14 months, he had been a new sales job selling what he said was “unnecessary insurance policies” – this is the opposite to his Helping people Values. His previous job was selling Medical Machinery to hospitals which was proven to save lives – BIG Helping People Value’s, he felt the machines he sold would help save peoples live, he sees himself as someone who helped other people (his number one value)

Your values drive who you are (your personality), for a successful career pick a role and a company that have the same values that you require – what you believe is important to you.

    Stopping Your Success – Procrastination

    Stopping Your Success – Procrastination

Procrastination is an avoidance of a task that needs to be accomplished, people often avoid starting or completing an important task because of their negative emotion towards the task; guilt, anxiety, inadequacy or fear of the unknown.

Procrastination can stop you being successful

Many people avoid success, because they put obstacles in their own path, sabotaging their own efforts. This can include small task such as not paying bills on time, missing opportunities by not using a gift voucher by the use by date, leaving the Christmas shopping until the last minute.

You may be reading this and thinking “it’s not too bad leaving your shopping to the last minute or not using a gift voucher..” and I would add it’s not about missing just one opportunity, it’s about self-regulation which doesn’t mean procrastination is about time management, it means procrastinators is about your decision making strategy.

If you have a negative decision making strategy that you use throughout your personal life and your career, you will fail to gain any success

A life Coach can help achieve success

A person with a positive decision making strategy will feel good about their decisions, starting and finishing task, learning from any mistakes and having a positive approach to starting new opportunities.

    Procrastinators often say:

    • “I will do it tomorrow”
    • “this isn’t important at the moment”
    • “I work best when I’m under pressure”

Even thought procrastinators use these statements all the time, they often wake up the next morning without wanting to start yesterday’s task, they still feel the task isn’t important and they don’t work well under pressure. Instead they look for distractions and more excuses.

    Procrastination will believe:

    • If they ignore a task, it will go away
    • Lesser standards are acceptable
    • They can complete large task in a small amount of time
    • Substituting a lesser task for an important task is acceptable, saying to themselves that the lesser task also needed completing
    • Minor delays are harmless – so I can repeat them
    • Spending more time on part of the task is important then completing the whole task on time, or dramatising the commitment to the task rather then starting the task

    Overcoming Procrastination:

    • Make a list of what makes putting something off painful for you – why do you hate putting tasks off

    • Make a list of the benefits of starting a task straight away, why does it feel good when you get things done quickly?

    • ·         Put yourself in a positive state, remember a time when you felt good, when you were feeling really keen to get on with things
    • ·         Do the task NOW if possible don’t put it off
    • ·         Be honest with yourself – if you can only spend a certain amount of time on task, admit it, as this stops GUILT
    • ·         Brain storm what you need to do and how you can achieve it
    • ·         Set Goals and reward yourself when you achieve them
    • ·         Prioritise task
    • ·         Start with an easy part of the task
    • ·         Break any task down into manageable steps, allowing yourself enough time to complete each step or stage
    • ·         Address any problems as they arise – get help from others when needed
    • ·         Be reasonable with yourself, don’t think all task can reach ‘perfection’
    • ·         Continue to start task straight away, with everyday (and all) activities, as repetition will turn your new positive decision making strategy automatic

By following these steps, putting yourself in a positive mood, breaking down each task into easy to manage steps and starting with a small task straight away will help you to quickly overcome procrastination, once you use these strategy for all task in your life and career you will soon see the difference in your attitude and how others view you

    Overcoming the Fear of Failure

    Overcoming the Fear of Failure

What stops most people moving forward with their life? The fear of failing – just the thought that you might make a mistake, you may get it wrong or you might fail, can stop people even trying something new. It’s not the fear of failure it’s the fear of criticism and rejection that people fear the most, which means if you didn’t fear the thought of criticism or rejection, what you can achieve is unlimited.

Successful people make mistakes (like the rest of us) but they don’t see a mistake as a failure but see the mistake as feedback, a learning curve a chance to move forward.

Unsuccessful people limit themselves and only achieve a fraction of what they are capable of achieving, because they are scared that they will fail – they feel they will be criticized.

This article will help you overcome fear and to gain your goals.

    Life Coaching

How you view future events in your mind

When you think of trying something new you will make a visual representation of this event in your minds eye. This image, you will create will either be positive (you will see yourself being successful) or negative (you will imagine yourself failing) which will result in you FEELING positive or negative.

If your negative feelings are strong, you will often make the decision not to complete this task.

To overcome this, when you think of a negative image/future event in your minds eye, change the color of this image to black and white. If the image is more like a film, pause the film and make it into a stilled picture. Put a big frame around the picture and slowly move the image away from you, further and further away so the picture becomes smaller and smaller – how do you feel now?

As you change the submodalities of the image you will also change your emotional response to the image – you won’t feel negativity or fear. You will need to complete this exercise 2-3 times.

Without fear will you be more willing to “give it a go” and once you start trying new activities you will get new results.

    Keep Going

You need to be persistent, when you want to make a real change to your life. If you want to be successful you will need to look at different ways to achieve your goal. Some ideas will work and some wont, the trick here is to never give up and after each activity ask yourself what have I learnt from this experience? Remember if you carry on doing things in the same way you will get the same result.

    An opportunity to learn.

When making any change you will make mistakes, think of any failure as a learning experience. What did you learn from the experience that will help you in the future? How can you use this experience to improve yourself or your situation? What could I of done to prevent the mistake? What will you do differently next time? What has been good about making this mistake – what have I learnt?
